Peaceful Schools International Distribution

We're very pleased to announce that the remaining copies of Clearing by Noon's CD Singing for Peace are being distributed by Peaceful Schools International to their member schools around the world. Clearing by Noon has published a Users' Guide to the CD which will be included in the distribution. The Users' Guide is offered as a tool to generate discussion of peace issues and other community groups.

With this final distribution, the CD is out of print except for a few remaining copies in stock at CD Baby.

CD Available for Distribution at No Cost

Clearing by Noon's Singing for Peace, the album of peace songs created to raise funds and consciousness for the Halifax Peace Coalition and the Voice of Women for Peace - Nova Scotia, has now raised $5000 for the two groups.

Three years after conception of the idea and two years after the release of the CD, the fundrasing part of the project has now wrapped up. From this point on, the remaining CDs will be available free of charge to any organizations or individuals who wish to spread the word about peace.

Clearing by Noon is particularly, although not exclusively, interested in distributing the CD to young people and having teachers, leaders and social activists use the music as a starting point for discussion about issues of war and peace.

We welcome any inquiries about the CD. We've put some money aside for postage, so if you're working on a tight budget and can't afford shipping costs, we'll even mail it to you for free.

Donations reach $3000

Clearing by Noon's fundraising CD project Singing for Peace has now raised $3000 for the two peace organizations it was conceived to benefit: Halifax Peace Coalition and Voice of Women for Peace - Nova Scotia.

The two organizations particpated in organizing an event to mark the third annual Peace Day in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and during the event Clearing by Noon presented each of them with a cheque from $1000 from sales of the CD, which was released in May 2006.

With earlier donations of $500 to each group in November 2006, the total raised is now $3000.

The vocal group, which features Sandy Greenberg, Catriona Talbot and Rose Vaughan, continues to promote the album at concerts and peace events throughout Nova Scotia. Their next appearances will be at a women's retreat for the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and at Deep Roots Music Festival in Wolfville, Nova Scotia (http://www.deeprootsmusic.ca/en/index.html). First Donations from CD Project

Clearing by Noon is delighted to announce that we have made our first donations to the peace groups our CD of peace songs was conceived to benefit. The CD, entitled Singing for Peace, was released on May 13, 2006 as a fundraising project.

On October 28, 2006 many cities across Canada held demonstrations to ask for the withdrawal of combat troops from Afghanistan. At the march in Halifax NS, Clearing by Noon presented a cheque for $500 to the organizers of the event, the Halifax Peace Coalition.

A second cheque for $500 will be presented to the Voice of Women for Peace - Nova Scotia at a panel discussion they are sponsoring on November 22, 2006.

We hope these will be the first of many such cheques to these two groups of devoted community workers to support their efforts to bring about a more peaceful world.

CD Fundraising Project Turns the Corner

Only three months after its release, Clearing by Noon's fundraiser CD "Singing for Peace" has paid for itself. From this point on, every dollar raised by sales of the CD will go directly to the Halifax Peace Coalition and the Voice of Women for Peace - Nova Scotia.

Our initial pressing of 500 CDs funded the production of the CD, and the response to the CD was so great that we pressed an additional 500 copies less than a month after its release.

Clearing by Noon at the World Peace Forum

Clearing by Noon has just completed its first "cross-country tour." We travelled from Halifax to Vancouver (and back!) to attend the World Peace Forum. We gave four concerts in six days, attended many workshops and panels at the World Peace Forum, and promoted our newly released CD Singing for Peace to over 3000 peace activists from all over the world.

We produced Singing for Peace to promote a culture of peace and to raise funds for two local peace organizations, the Halifax Peace Coalition and the Voice of Women for Peace - Nova Scotia. All proceeds after expenses from the sale of the CD will go to these two organizations.

We arrived in Vancouver a day early because we were invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the national Voice of Women. We were warmly received and members of the Voice of Women offered to help us with distribution of the CD at conferences and meetings that they will be attending.

We're delighted to announce the release of Clearing by Noon's album of peace songs, entitled Singing for Peace, to take place Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 at St. Matthew's Church, Barrington at Spring Garden in Halifax, NS. The project is a fundraiser for local peace organizations.

There will be no admission charge for the concert, although we will be happy to accept donations, and of course our CDs will be available for sale. All proceeds from the sale of the album net of expenses will go to the Halifax Peace Coalition and the Voice of Women for Peace - Nova Scotia.

For those living outside of Halifax, CDs can also be purchased by mail. The cost of the CD is $20; shipping to Canada is $3, to the US $4 and to the UK $7 (for other countries, please contact catrionatalbot@yahoo.ca.) The CD will also be available at the World Peace Forum in Vancouver in June. Clearing by Noon has been invited to perform at the Forum and will be the final act at the Saturday night concert there.

The album features original songs by all of the members of Clearing by Noon, along with songs by Pete Seeger, Ed McCurdy, Woody Guthrie and Buffy Sainte-Marie, and some traditional folk songs. Also featured is the song "People of the World," co-written by Rose Vaughan and Cheryl Gaudet, who has recently released a new CD of her own entitled "South Shore Moon." Gaudet will also appear at the CD release concert.

We will have four generations of women singing at the concert: also on the bill are the Halifax Raging Grannies, who sing irreverent and hilarious songs about politics and reality, and the Grade 5 members of the Sir Charles Tupper School Choir, who sang with us on the album. In addition to our long-time musical friend Cheryl Gaudet, our daughters Lise Cormier, Fiona Talbot-Strong and Nika Vaughan (who also sang on the album), will be joining us as well.

Vocal Group Records Songs for Peace

The Halifax vocal group Clearing by Noon (Sandy Greenberg, Catriona Talbot and Rose Vaughan) is recording its first album, a collection of peace songs, with all proceeds to go to the Halifax Peace Coalition and the Voice of Women for Peace.

Clearing by Noon originally performed together in the mid-1980s, playing at venues such as the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and the International Women's Peace Conference, among many others. Other projects and responsibilities intervened, and the group disbanded in 1988. In 2002, provoked by the impending invasion of Iraq, Clearing by Noon started singing again. The recording project was conceived as a way to support peace groups financially as well as to promote a culture of peace.

A CD release concert is planned for Mother's Day 2006, to honour Julia Ward Howe's original proposal of a Mother's Day for Peace.

Your support is needed now to complete the recording and production of the album; there are three ways you can help us meet our goal:

Advance Sales: for $20 now, we'll deliver a CD to you as soon as it is ready. (We think it would also make a perfect Mother's Day gift.)

House Concerts: for $200 we'll come to your house and perform for you and your friends. You can share the cost, or make it your gift.

Sponsorships: for $400, you or your group can sponsor a specific song on the CD. We'll put your name in the credits next to the song and send you a CD.
